The surah that depicts the final separation of the believers and unbelievers on the Day of Judgment by an unscalable edifice called The Elevations that veils them from one another; but upon it stand men and women who can see both the people destined for Paradise and those fated for Hell, while their own harrowing verdict remains as yet undeclared by God. It is named after "the Elevations" (al-Aʿrāf) mentioned in verse 46 ff. The surah begins by addressing the Prophet Muḥammad, reassuring him about his revelations, and closes emphasizing the fact that he merely repeats what is revealed to him. It warns the disbelievers of their fate via numerous stories of disobedient communities of the past, in the hope that they may take heed and repent before it is too late. Both subjects also serve to give encouragement to the Prophet and the believers.

وَإِلَىٰ عَادٍ أَخَاهُمْ هُودًا ۗ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ﴿٦٥﴾

٦٥ - اور (اسی طرح) قوم عاد کی طرف ان کے بھائی ہود کو بھیجا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ بھائیو خدا ہی کی عبادت کرو۔ اس کے سوا تمہارا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ کیا تم ڈرتے نہیں؟ .

[7:65] And to the 'Aad [We sent] their brother Hud. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?"

[Transliteration] Wa ilaa 'aadin akhaahum Hoodaa, qaala yaa qawmi' budul laaha maa lakum min ilaahin ghairuh, afalaa tattaqoon

قَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ إِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِي سَفَاهَةٍ وَإِنَّا لَنَظُنُّكَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ ﴿٦٦﴾

٦٦ - تو ان کی قوم کے سردار جو کافر تھے کہنے لگے کہ تم ہمیں احمق نظر آتے ہو اور ہم تمہیں جھوٹا خیال کرتے ہیں .

[7:66] Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."

[Transliteration] Qaalal mala ul lazeena kafaroo min qawmiheee innaa lanaraaka fee safaahatinw wa innaa lannazunnuka minal kaazibeen

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لَيْسَ بِي سَفَاهَةٌ وَلَٰكِنِّي رَسُولٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿٦٧﴾

٦٧ - انہوں نے کہا کہ بھائیو مجھ میں حماقت کی کوئی بات نہیں ہے بلکہ میں رب العالمین کا پیغمبر ہوں .

[7:67] [Hud] said, "O my people, there is not foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds."

[Transliteration] Qaala yaa qawmi laisa bee safaahatunw wa laakinnee Rasoolum mir Rabbil 'aalameen

أُبَلِّغُكُمْ رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّي وَأَنَا لَكُمْ نَاصِحٌ أَمِينٌ ﴿٦٨﴾

٦٨ - میں تمہیں خدا کے پیغام پہنچاتا ہوں اور تمہارا امانت دار خیرخواہ ہوں .

[7:68] I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy adviser.

[Transliteration] Uballighukum Risaalaati Rabbee wa ana lakum naasihun ameen

أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ أَنْ جَاءَكُمْ ذِكْرٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ لِيُنْذِرَكُمْ ۚ وَاذْكُرُوا إِذْ جَعَلَكُمْ خُلَفَاءَ مِنْ بَعْدِ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَزَادَكُمْ فِي الْخَلْقِ بَسْطَةً ۖ فَاذْكُرُوا آلَاءَ اللَّهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ﴿٦٩﴾

٦٩ - کیا تم کو اس بات سے تعجب ہوا ہے کہ تم میں سے ایک شخص کے ہاتھ تمہارے پروردگار کی طرف سے تمہارے پاس نصیحت آئی تاکہ وہ تمہیں ڈرائے اور یاد کرو تو کرو جب اس نے تم کو قوم نوح کے بعد سردار بنایا۔ اور تم کو پھیلاؤ زیادہ دیا۔ پس خدا کی نعمتوں کو یاد کرو۔ تاکہ نجات حاصل کرو .

[7:69] Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you? And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you in stature extensively. So remember the favors of Allah that you might succeed.

[Transliteration] awa 'ajibtum an jaaa'akum zikrum mir Rabbikum 'alaa rajulim minkum liyunzirakum, wazkurooo iz ja'alakum khulafaaa'a mim ba'di qawmi noohinw wa zaadakum filkhalqi bastatan fazkurooo aalaaa'al laahi la'allakum tuflihoon

قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا لِنَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ وَحْدَهُ وَنَذَرَ مَا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُنَا ۖ فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ﴿٧٠﴾

٧٠ - وہ کہنے لگے کہ تم ہمارے پاس اس لیے آئے ہو کہ ہم اکیلے خدا ہی کی عبادت کریں۔ اور جن کو ہمارے باپ دادا پوجتے چلے آئے ہیں ان کو چھوڑ دیں؟ تو اگر سچے ہو تو جس چیز سے ہمیں ڈراتے ہو اسے لے آؤ .

[7:70] They said, "Have you come to us that we should worship Allah alone and leave what our fathers have worshipped? Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the truthful."

[Transliteration] Qaalooo aji'tanaa lina'budal laaha wahdahoo wa nazara maa kaana ya'budu aabaaa'u naa faatinaa bimaa ta'idunaaa in kunta minas saadiqeen

قَالَ قَدْ وَقَعَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ رِجْسٌ وَغَضَبٌ ۖ أَتُجَادِلُونَنِي فِي أَسْمَاءٍ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ مَا نَزَّلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ ۚ فَانْتَظِرُوا إِنِّي مَعَكُمْ مِنَ الْمُنْتَظِرِينَ ﴿٧١﴾

٧١ - ہود نے کہا تمہارے پروردگار کی طرف سے تم پر عذاب اور غضب کا (نازل ہونا) مقرر ہو چکا ہے۔ کیا تم مجھ سے ایسے ناموں کے بارے میں جھگڑتے ہو جو تم نے اور تمہارے باپ دادا نے (اپنی طرف سے) رکھ لئے ہیں۔ جن کی خدا نے کوئی سند نازل نہیں کی۔ تو تم بھی انتظار کرو میں بھی تمہارے ساتھ انتظار کرتا ہوں .

[7:71] [Hud] said, "Already have defilement and anger fallen upon you from your Lord. Do you dispute with me concerning [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has not sent down any authority? Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait."

[Transliteration] Qaala qad waqa'a alaikum mir Rabbikum rijsunw wa ghadab, atujaadiloonanee feee asmaaa'in sammaitumoohaaa antum wa aabaaa'ukum maa nazzalal laahu bihaa min sultaan, fantazirooo innee ma'akum minal muntazireen

فَأَنْجَيْنَاهُ وَالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنَّا وَقَطَعْنَا دَابِرَ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا ۖ وَمَا كَانُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿٧٢﴾

٧٢ - پھر ہم نے ہود کو اور جو لوگ ان کے ساتھ تھے ان کو نجات بخشی اور جنہوں نے ہماری آیتوں کو جھٹلایا تھا ان کی جڑ کاٹ دی اور وہ ایمان لانے والے تھے ہی نہیں .

[7:72] So We saved him and those with him by mercy from Us. And We eliminated those who denied Our signs, and they were not [at all] believers.

[Transliteration] Fa anjainaahu wallazeena ma'ahoo birahmatim minnaa wa qata'naa daabiral lazeena kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa wa maa kaanoo mu'mineen
