That surah that opens with the story of the ancient Prophet Noah, the unrelenting Messenger of Resolve, and his obstinately unbelieving people. It is named after Noah (Nūḥ) whose account is related in the surah and further gives details of the life of Noah before the Flood, to encourage the Prophet and warn the disbelievers.

وَقَالُوا لَا تَذَرُنَّ آلِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا ﴿٢٣﴾
٢٣ - اور کہنے لگے کہ اپنے معبودوں کو ہرگز نہ چھوڑنا اور ود اور سواع اور یغوث اور یعقوب اور نسر کو کبھی ترک نہ کرنا .
[71:23] And said, 'Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwa' or Yaghuth and Ya'uq and Nasr.
[Transliteration] Wa qaaloo laa tazarunna aalihatakum wa laa tazarunna Waddanw wa laa Suwaa'anw wa laa Yaghoosa wa Ya'ooqa wa Nasraa
