The surah that mentions the Ornaments of solid gold, and other precious commodities and appointments, which God would have granted in this life to all the unbelievers—had it not been that this would have driven humankind to unite in godlessness—for the trinkets of life are the true hearts' desire of the ungodly. Yet fleeting are all the things of this world, and far finer and everlasting the joy of Paradise for the believers; and that is their true hearts' desire. It takes its name from the word "ornaments" (zukhruf) in verse 35, and verse 53 alluded to again in : in both instances God is refuting the claim of the disbelievers that a true prophet would be rich. The fact that the angels are not God’s daughters but His obedient servants is emphasized again and again (verse 15 ff. and verse 60). Similarly, the idea that Jesus could be the son of God is clearly denied ( verse 57ff.).

AZ-ZUKHRUF

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِآيَاتِنَا إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي رَسُولُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿٤٦﴾

٤٦ - اور ہم نے موسیٰ کو اپنی نشانیاں دے کر فرعون اور اس کے درباریوں کی طرف بھیجا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ میں پروردگار عالم کا بھیجا ہوا ہوں .

[43:46] And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds."

[Transliteration] Wa laqad arsalnaa Moosaa bi aayaatinaaa ilaa Fir'awna wa mala'ihee faqaala innee Rasoolu Rabbil 'aalameen

فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ بِآيَاتِنَا إِذَا هُمْ مِنْهَا يَضْحَكُونَ ﴿٤٧﴾

٤٧ - جب وہ ان کے پاس ہماری نشانیاں لے کر آئے تو وہ نشانیوں سے ہنسی کرنے لگے .

[43:47] But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them.

[Transliteration] Falammma jaaa'ahum bi aayaatinaaa izaa hum minhaa yadhakoon

وَمَا نُرِيهِمْ مِنْ آيَةٍ إِلَّا هِيَ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ أُخْتِهَا ۖ وَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْعَذَابِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ ﴿٤٨﴾

٤٨ - اور جو نشانی ہم ان کو دکھاتے تھے وہ دوسری سے بڑی ہوتی تھی اور ہم نے ان کو عذاب میں پکڑ لیا تاکہ باز آئیں .

[43:48] And We showed them not a sign except that it was greater than its sister, and We seized them with affliction that perhaps they might return [to faith].

[Transliteration] Wa maa nureehim min aayatin illaa hiya akbaru min ukhtihaa wa akhaznaahum bil'azaabi la'allahum yarji'oon

وَقَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَ السَّاحِرُ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِنْدَكَ إِنَّنَا لَمُهْتَدُونَ ﴿٤٩﴾

٤٩ - اور کہنے لگے کہ اے جادوگر اس عہد کے مطابق جو تیرے پروردگار نے تجھ سے کر رکھا ہے اس سے دعا کر بےشک ہم ہدایت یاب ہو جائیں گے .

[43:49] And they said [to Moses], "O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided."

[Transliteration] Wa qaaloo yaaa ayyuhas saahirud'u lanaa Rabbaka bimaa 'ahida 'indaka innanaa lamuhtadoon

فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ الْعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمْ يَنْكُثُونَ ﴿٥٠﴾

٥٠ - سو جب ہم نے ان سے عذاب کو دور کردیا تو وہ عہد شکنی کرنے لگے .

[43:50] But when We removed from them the affliction, at once they broke their word.

[Transliteration] Falammaa kashafnaa 'anhumul 'azaaba izaa hum yankusoon

وَنَادَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فِي قَوْمِهِ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَلَيْسَ لِي مُلْكُ مِصْرَ وَهَٰذِهِ الْأَنْهَارُ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِي ۖ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ ﴿٥١﴾

٥١ - اور فرعون نے اپنی قوم سے پکار کر کہا کہ اے قوم کیا مصر کی حکومت میرے ہاتھ میں نہیں ہے۔ اور یہ نہریں جو میرے (محلوں کے) نیچے بہہ رہی ہیں (میری نہیں ہیں) کیا تم دیکھتے نہیں .

[43:51] And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see?

[Transliteration] Wa naadaa Fir'awnu fee qawmihee qaala yaa qawmi alaisa lee mulku Misra wa haazihil anhaaru tajree min tahtee afalaa tubsiroon

أَمْ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي هُوَ مَهِينٌ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُبِينُ ﴿٥٢﴾

٥٢ - بےشک میں اس شخص سے جو کچھ عزت نہیں رکھتا اور صاف گفتگو بھی نہیں کرسکتا کہیں بہتر ہوں .

[43:52] Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear?

[Transliteration] Am ana khairum min haazal lazee huwa maheenunw wa laa yuakaadu yubeen

فَلَوْلَا أُلْقِيَ عَلَيْهِ أَسْوِرَةٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ أَوْ جَاءَ مَعَهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ مُقْتَرِنِينَ ﴿٥٣﴾

٥٣ - تو اس پر سونے کے کنگن کیوں نہ اُتارے گئے یا (یہ ہوتا کہ) فرشتے جمع ہو کر اس کے ساتھ آتے .

[43:53] Then why have there not been placed upon him bracelets of gold or come with him the angels in conjunction?"

[Transliteration] Falaw laa ulqiya 'alaihi aswiratum min zahabin awjaaa'a ma'ahul malaaa'ikatu muqtarineen

فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ ﴿٥٤﴾

٥٤ - غرض اس نے اپنی قوم کی عقل مار دی۔ اور انہوں نے اس کی بات مان لی۔ بےشک وہ نافرمان لوگ تھے .

[43:54] So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allah].

[Transliteration] Fastakhaffa qawmahoo fa ataa'ooh, innahum kaanoo qawman faasiqeen

فَلَمَّا آسَفُونَا انْتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ﴿٥٥﴾

٥٥ - جب انہوں نے ہم کو خفا کیا تو ہم نے ان سے انتقام لے کر اور ان سب کو ڈبو کر چھوڑا .

[43:55] And when they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all.

[Transliteration] Falammaaa aasafoonan taqamnaa minhum fa aghraqnaahum ajma'een
