The surah that opens with the oath of the Divine One swearing by the angels arrayed before Him in devotional ranks, The Ranged Ones—thereafter, by other angels propelling the clouds, dispelling evil, and reciting God’s praise. It takes its name from verse 1, which refers to a gropu of angels as "those ranged (ṣāffāt) in ranks". The central point of this surah is the unity of God (verse 4 and verse 180 ff.) and the refutation of the pagan belief that the angels were daughters of God and worthy of worship. The angels themselves are quoted to refute this (verse 164ff.). The prophethood of Muḥammad, is affirmed, as is the Hereafter. There are two supporting sections: the scenes in the Hereafter (verse 19ff.) and the stories of earlier prophets (verse 75 ff.).

AS-SAFFAAT

وَإِنَّ مِنْ شِيعَتِهِ لَإِبْرَاهِيمَ ﴿٨٣﴾

٨٣ - اور ان ہی کے پیرووں میں ابراہیم تھے .

[37:83] And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,

[Transliteration] Wa ina min shee'atihee la Ibraaheem

إِذْ جَاءَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ ﴿٨٤﴾

٨٤ - جب وہ اپنے پروردگار کے پاس (عیب سے) پاک دل لے کر آئے .

[37:84] When he came to his Lord with a sound heart

[Transliteration] Iz jaaa'a Rabbahoo bi qalbin saleem

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ ﴿٨٥﴾

٨٥ - جب انہوں نے اپنے باپ سے اور اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ تم کن چیزوں کو پوجتے ہو؟ .

[37:85] [And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?

[Transliteration] Iz qaala li abeehi wa qawmihee maazaa ta'budoon

أَئِفْكًا آلِهَةً دُونَ اللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ ﴿٨٦﴾

٨٦ - کیوں جھوٹ (بنا کر) خدا کے سوا اور معبودوں کے طالب ہو؟ .

[37:86] Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allah you desire?

[Transliteration] A'ifkan aalihatan doonal laahi tureedoon

فَمَا ظَنُّكُمْ بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿٨٧﴾

٨٧ - بھلا پروردگار عالم کے بارے میں تمہارا کیا خیال ہے؟ .

[37:87] Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"

[Transliteration] Famaa zannukum bi Rabbil'aalameen

فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِي النُّجُومِ ﴿٨٨﴾

٨٨ - تب انہوں نے ستاروں کی طرف ایک نظر کی .

[37:88] And he cast a look at the stars

[Transliteration] Fanazara nazratan finnujoom

فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمٌ ﴿٨٩﴾

٨٩ - اور کہا میں تو بیمار ہوں .

[37:89] And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."

[Transliteration] Faqaala inee saqeem

فَتَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ ﴿٩٠﴾

٩٠ - تب وہ ان سے پیٹھ پھیر کر لوٹ گئے .

[37:90] So they turned away from him, departing.

[Transliteration] Fatawallaw 'anhu mudbireen

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ آلِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ ﴿٩١﴾

٩١ - پھر ابراہیم ان کے معبودوں کی طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور کہنے لگے کہ تم کھاتے کیوں نہیں؟ .

[37:91] Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?

[Transliteration] Faraagha ilaaa aalihatihim faqaala alaa taakuloon

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنْطِقُونَ ﴿٩٢﴾

٩٢ - تمہیں کیا ہوا ہے تم بولتے نہیں؟ .

[37:92] What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?"

[Transliteration] Maa lakum laa tantiqoon

فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًا بِالْيَمِينِ ﴿٩٣﴾

٩٣ - پھر ان کو داہنے ہاتھ سے مارنا (اور توڑنا) شروع کیا .

[37:93] And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.

[Transliteration] Faraagha 'alaihim darbam bilyameen

فَأَقْبَلُوا إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ ﴿٩٤﴾

٩٤ - تو وہ لوگ ان کے پاس دوڑے ہوئے آئے .

[37:94] Then the people came toward him, hastening.

[Transliteration] Fa aqbalooo ilaihi yaziffoon

قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ ﴿٩٥﴾

٩٥ - انہوں نے کہا کہ تم ایسی چیزوں کو کیوں پوجتے ہو جن کو خود تراشتے ہو؟ .

[37:95] He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,

[Transliteration] Qaala ata'budoona maa tanhitoon

وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٩٦﴾

٩٦ - حالانکہ تم کو اور جو تم بناتے ہو اس کو خدا ہی نے پیدا کیا ہے .

[37:96] While Allah created you and that which you do?"

[Transliteration] Wallaahu khalaqakum wa maa ta'maloon

قَالُوا ابْنُوا لَهُ بُنْيَانًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِي الْجَحِيمِ ﴿٩٧﴾

٩٧ - وہ کہنے لگے کہ اس کے لئے ایک عمارت بناؤ پھر اس کو آگ کے ڈھیر میں ڈال دو .

[37:97] They said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire."

[Transliteration] Qaalub noo lahoo bun yaanan fa alqoohu fil jaheem

فَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَسْفَلِينَ ﴿٩٨﴾

٩٨ - غرض انہوں نے ان کے ساتھ ایک چال چلنی چاہی اور ہم نے ان ہی کو زیر کردیا .

[37:98] And they intended for him a plan, but We made them the most debased.

[Transliteration] Fa araadoo bihee kaidan faja 'alnaahumul asfaleen

وَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ ﴿٩٩﴾

٩٩ - اور ابراہیم بولے کہ میں اپنے پروردگار کی طرف جانے والا ہوں وہ مجھے رستہ دکھائے گا .

[37:99] And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.

[Transliteration] Wa qaala innee zaahibun ilaa Rabbee sa yahdeen

رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ﴿١٠٠﴾

١٠٠ - اے پروردگار مجھے (اولاد) عطا فرما (جو) سعادت مندوں میں سے (ہو) .

[37:100] My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."

[Transliteration] Rabbi hab lee minas saaliheen

فَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِغُلَامٍ حَلِيمٍ ﴿١٠١﴾

١٠١ - تو ہم نے ان کو ایک نرم دل لڑکے کی خوشخبری دی .

[37:101] So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.

[Transliteration] Fabashsharnaahu bighulaamin haleem

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ السَّعْيَ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ فَانْظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَا أَبَتِ افْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الصَّابِرِينَ ﴿١٠٢﴾

١٠٢ - جب وہ ان کے ساتھ دوڑنے (کی عمر) کو پہنچا تو ابراہیم نے کہا کہ بیٹا میں خواب میں دیکھتا ہوں کہ (گویا) تم کو ذبح کر رہا ہوں تو تم سوچو کہ تمہارا کیا خیال ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ ابا جو آپ کو حکم ہوا ہے وہی کیجیئے خدا نے چاہا تو آپ مجھے صابروں میں پایئے گا .

[37:102] And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast."

[Transliteration] Falamma balagha ma'a hus sa'ya qaala yaa buniya inneee araa fil manaami anneee azbahuka fanzur maazaa taraa, qaala yaaa abatif 'al maa tu'maru satajidunee in shaaa'allaahu minas saabireen
