The surah that opens with the discrete Arabic letters Yā Sīn. "Yā Sīn" (mentioned in ) is one of the names of the Prophet. The surah emphasizes the divine source of the Quran and defends it from the charge of being poetry made by man (verse 5 ff. and verse 69 ff.). It warns of the fate of men who are stubborn and always mock God’s revelations. They are reminded of the punishment that befell earlier generations, and of God’s power as shown in His Creation. The end of the surah gives strong arguments for the reality of the Resurrection.
The surah is also known as: Ya-Sin, Yaa Siin.
