The surah that contains the inimitable verse that celebrates God as The Light of the heavens and earth, guiding to Himself whomever He so wills. It is named after the "Light Verse" which occurs at verse 35, where God’s light is contrasted to the darkness in which the disbelievers find themselves engulfed. The surah clarifies several regulations for the Muslim community, mainly to do with marriage, modesty, obedience to the Prophet, and appropriate behaviour in the household.

AN-NOOR


أَوْ كَظُلُمَاتٍ فِي بَحْرٍ لُجِّيٍّ يَغْشَاهُ مَوْجٌ مِنْ فَوْقِهِ مَوْجٌ مِنْ فَوْقِهِ سَحَابٌ ۚ ظُلُمَاتٌ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ إِذَا أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَاهَا ۗ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَجْعَلِ اللَّهُ لَهُ نُورًا فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ نُورٍ ﴿٤٠﴾
٤٠ - یا (ان کے اعمال کی مثال ایسی ہے) جیسے دریائے عمیق میں اندھیرے جس پر لہر چڑھی چلی آتی ہو اور اس کے اوپر اور لہر (آرہی ہو) اور اس کے اوپر بادل ہو، غرض اندھیرے ہی اندھیرے ہوں، ایک پر ایک (چھایا ہوا) جب اپنا ہاتھ نکالے تو کچھ نہ دیکھ سکے۔ اور جس کو خدا روشنی نہ دے اس کو (کہیں بھی) روشنی نہیں (مل سکتی) .
[24:40] Or [they are] like darknesses within an unfathomable sea which is covered by waves, upon which are waves, over which are clouds - darknesses, some of them upon others. When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it. And he to whom Allah has not granted light - for him there is no light.
[Transliteration] Aw kazulumaatin fee bahril lujjiyyiny yaghshaahu mawjum min fawqihee mawjum min fawqihee mawjum min fawqihee sahaab, zulumatum ba'duhaa fawqa ba'din izaaa akhraja yadahoo lam yakad yaraahaa wa mal lam yaj'alil laahu lahoo noora famaa lahoo min noor
