The surah that mentions the names of sixteen of The Prophets and Mary, illustrating the unity of the divine message. Accounts of several prophets (anbiyāʾ) appear in this surah from verse 48 ff., hence its name. The surah stresses that fact that Muḥammad is a man like earlier prophets, and has been given the same message to declare the unity of God. It warns the disbelievers of the approaching Judgement from which there is no escape.

AL-AMBIA

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ رُشْدَهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِ عَالِمِينَ ﴿٥١﴾

٥١ - اور ہم نے ابراہیمؑ کو پہلے ہی سے ہدایت دی تھی اور ہم ان کے حال سے واقف تھے .

[21:51] And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing

[Transliteration] Wa laqad aatainaaa Ibraaheema rushdahoo min qablu wa kunnaa bihee 'aalimeen

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَا هَٰذِهِ التَّمَاثِيلُ الَّتِي أَنْتُمْ لَهَا عَاكِفُونَ ﴿٥٢﴾

٥٢ - جب انہوں نے اپنے باپ اور اپنی قوم کے لوگوں سے کہا یہ کیا مورتیں ہیں جن (کی پرستش) پر تم معتکف (وقائم) ہو؟ .

[21:52] When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?"

[Transliteration] Iz qaala li abeehi wa qawmihee maa haazihit tamaaseelul lateee antum lahee 'aakifoon

قَالُوا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا لَهَا عَابِدِينَ ﴿٥٣﴾

٥٣ - وہ کہنے لگے کہ ہم نے اپنے باپ دادا کو ان کی پرستش کرتے دیکھا ہے .

[21:53] They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them."

[Transliteration] Qaaloo wajadnaaa aabaaa'anaa lahaa 'aabideen

قَالَ لَقَدْ كُنْتُمْ أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ ﴿٥٤﴾

٥٤ - (ابراہیم نے) کہا کہ تم بھی (گمراہ ہو) اور تمہارے باپ دادا بھی صریح گمراہی میں پڑے رہے .

[21:54] He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error."

[Transliteration] Qaala laqad kuntum antum wa aabaaa'ukum fee dalaalim mubeen

قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا بِالْحَقِّ أَمْ أَنْتَ مِنَ اللَّاعِبِينَ ﴿٥٥﴾

٥٥ - وہ بولے کیا تم ہمارے پاس (واقعی) حق لائے ہو یا (ہم سے) کھیل (کی باتیں) کرتے ہو؟ .

[21:55] They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?"

[Transliteration] Qaalooo aji'tanaa bil haqqi am anta minal laa'ibeen

قَالَ بَلْ رَبُّكُمْ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ الَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُمْ مِنَ الشَّاهِدِينَ ﴿٥٦﴾

٥٦ - (ابراہیم نے) کہا (نہیں) بلکہ تمہارا پروردگار آسمانوں اور زمین کا پروردگار ہے جس نے ان کو پیدا کیا ہے۔ اور میں اس (بات) کا گواہ (اور اسی کا قائل) ہوں .

[21:56] He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify.

[Transliteration] Qaala bar Rabbukum Rabbus samaawaati wal ardil lazee fatarahunna wa ana 'alaa zaalikum minash shaahideen

وَتَاللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصْنَامَكُمْ بَعْدَ أَنْ تُوَلُّوا مُدْبِرِينَ ﴿٥٧﴾

٥٧ - اور خدا کی قسم جب تم پیٹھ پھیر کر چلے جاؤ گے تو میں تمہارے بتوں سے ایک چال چلوں گا .

[21:57] And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away."

[Transliteration] Wa tallaahi la akeedanna asnaamakum ba'da an tuwalloo mudbireen

فَجَعَلَهُمْ جُذَاذًا إِلَّا كَبِيرًا لَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ يَرْجِعُونَ ﴿٥٨﴾

٥٨ - پھر ان کو توڑ کر ریزہ ریزہ کردیا مگر ایک بڑے (بت) کو (نہ توڑا) تاکہ وہ اس کی طرف رجوع کریں .

[21:58] So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question].

[Transliteration] Faja'alahum juzaazan illaa kabeeral lahum la'allahum ilaihi yarji'oon

قَالُوا مَنْ فَعَلَ هَٰذَا بِآلِهَتِنَا إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ ﴿٥٩﴾

٥٩ - کہنے لگے کہ ہمارے معبودوں کے ساتھ یہ معاملہ کس نے کیا؟ وہ تو کوئی ظالم ہے .

[21:59] They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers."

[Transliteration] Qaaloo man fa'ala haazaa bi aalihatinaaa innahoo laminaz zaalimeen

قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا فَتًى يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ﴿٦٠﴾

٦٠ - لوگوں نے کہا کہ ہم نے ایک جوان کو ان کا ذکر کرتے ہوئے سنا ہے اس کو ابراہیم کہتے ہیں .

[21:60] They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham."

[Transliteration] Qaaloo sami'naa fatany yazkuruhum yuqaalu lahooo Ibraaheem

قَالُوا فَأْتُوا بِهِ عَلَىٰ أَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ ﴿٦١﴾

٦١ - وہ بولے کہ اسے لوگوں کے سامنے لاؤ تاکہ گواہ رہیں .

[21:61] They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify."

[Transliteration] Qaaloo faatoo bihee 'alaaa a'yunin naasi la'allahum yash hadoon

قَالُوا أَأَنْتَ فَعَلْتَ هَٰذَا بِآلِهَتِنَا يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ ﴿٦٢﴾

٦٢ - (جب ابراہیم آئے تو) بت پرستوں نے کہا کہ ابراہیم بھلا یہ کام ہمارے معبودوں کے ساتھ تم نے کیا ہے؟ .

[21:62] They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?"

[Transliteration] Qaalooo 'a-anta fa'alta haazaa bi aalihatinaa yaaa Ibraaheem

قَالَ بَلْ فَعَلَهُ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَٰذَا فَاسْأَلُوهُمْ إِنْ كَانُوا يَنْطِقُونَ ﴿٦٣﴾

٦٣ - (ابراہیم نے) کہا (نہیں) بلکہ یہ ان کے اس بڑے (بت) نے کیا (ہوگا)۔ اگر یہ بولتے ہیں تو ان سے پوچھ لو .

[21:63] He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak."

[Transliteration] Qaala bal fa'alahoo kabeeruhum haazaa fas'aloohum in kaanoo yantiqoon

فَرَجَعُوا إِلَىٰ أَنْفُسِهِمْ فَقَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ أَنْتُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ ﴿٦٤﴾

٦٤ - انہوں نے اپنے دل غور کیا تو آپس میں کہنے لگے بےشک تم ہی بےانصاف ہو .

[21:64] So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers."

[Transliteration] Faraja'ooo ilaaa anfusihim faqaalooo innakum antumuz zaalimoon

ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمْ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا هَٰؤُلَاءِ يَنْطِقُونَ ﴿٦٥﴾

٦٥ - پھر (شرمندہ ہو کر) سر نیچا کرلیا (اس پر بھی ابراہیم سے کہنے لگے کہ) تم جانتے ہو یہ بولتے نہیں .

[21:65] Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!"

[Transliteration] Summa nukisoo 'alaa ru'oosihim laqad 'alimta maa haaa'ulaaa'i yantiqoon

قَالَ أَفَتَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنْفَعُكُمْ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمْ ﴿٦٦﴾

٦٦ - (ابراہیم نے) کہا پھر تم خدا کو چھوڑ کر کیوں ایسی چیزوں کو پوجتے ہو جو نہ تمہیں کچھ فائدہ دے سکیں اور نقصان پہنچا سکیں؟ .

[21:66] He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you?

[Transliteration] Qaala afata'budoona min doonil laahi maa laa yanfa'ukum shai'anw wa laa yadurrukum

أُفٍّ لَكُمْ وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ ۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ ﴿٦٧﴾

٦٧ - تف ہے تم پر اور جن کو تم خدا کے سوا پوجتے ہو ان پر بھی کیا تم عقل نہیں رکھتے؟ .

[21:67] Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?"

[Transliteration] Uffil lakum wa limaa ta'budoona min doonil laah, afalaa ta'qiloon

قَالُوا حَرِّقُوهُ وَانْصُرُوا آلِهَتَكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ ﴿٦٨﴾

٦٨ - (تب وہ) کہنے لگے کہ اگر تمہیں (اس سے اپنے معبود کا انتقام لینا اور) کچھ کرنا ہے تو اس کو جلا دو اور اپنے معبودوں کی مدد کرو .

[21:68] They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act."

[Transliteration] Qaaloo harriqooho wansurooo aalihatakum in kuntum faa'ileen

قُلْنَا يَا نَارُ كُونِي بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ﴿٦٩﴾

٦٩ - ہم نے حکم دیا اے آگ سرد ہوجا اور ابراہیم پر (موجب) سلامتی (بن جا) .

[21:69] Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham."

[Transliteration] Qulnaa yaa naaru koonee bardanw wa salaaman 'alaaa Ibraaheem

وَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَخْسَرِينَ ﴿٧٠﴾

٧٠ - اور ان لوگوں نے برا تو ان کا چاہا تھا مگر ہم نے ان ہی کو نقصان میں ڈال دیا .

[21:70] And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers.

[Transliteration] Wa araadoo bihee kaidan faja'alnaahumul akhsareen

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا لِلْعَالَمِينَ ﴿٧١﴾

٧١ - اور ابراہیم اور لوط کو اس سرزمین کی طرف بچا نکالا جس میں ہم نے اہل عالم کے لئے برکت رکھی تھی .

[21:71] And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds.

[Transliteration] Wa najjainaahu wa Lootan ilal ardil latee baaraknaa feehaa lil 'aalameen

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ نَافِلَةً ۖ وَكُلًّا جَعَلْنَا صَالِحِينَ ﴿٧٢﴾

٧٢ - اور ہم نے ابراہیم کو اسحق عطا کئے۔ اور مستزاد برآں یعقوب۔ اور سب کو نیک بخت کیا .

[21:72] And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous.

[Transliteration] Wa wahabnaa lahooo Ishaaq, wa Ya'qooba naafilah, wa kullan ja'alnaa saaliheen

وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ أَئِمَّةً يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ وَإِقَامَ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءَ الزَّكَاةِ ۖ وَكَانُوا لَنَا عَابِدِينَ ﴿٧٣﴾

٧٣ - اور ان کو پیشوا بنایا کہ ہمارے حکم سے ہدایت کرتے تھے اور ان کو نیک کام کرنے اور نماز پڑھنے اور زکوٰة دینے کا حکم بھیجا۔ اور وہ ہماری عبادت کیا کرتے تھے .

[21:73] And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us.

[Transliteration] Wa ja'alnaahum a'immatany yahdoona bi amrinaa wa awhainaaa ilaihim fi'lal khairaati wa iqaamas Salaati wa eetaaa'az Zakaati wa kaanoo lanaa 'aabideen
